WHAT ARE THE SPONSORSHIP INCOME REQUIREMENTS?

Most sponsors of a spouse, partner or dependent child do not have to meet a minimum income threshold. Financial requirements can apply in specific situations, including some dependent-child sponsorships where the dependent child has dependent children. A sponsor must still sign an undertaking and show that the sponsored family members can be supported without social assistance, other than disability-related assistance.

For parents and grandparents, IRCC generally requires the sponsor and any co-signer to meet the applicable minimum income for each of the three tax years before applying. Requirements and amounts can change, so confirm the current IRCC rules for the family class before filing.
